Joint Alliance (ABC News and Yahoo) will reach 100M monthly visitors!

Announced this morning on Good Morning America and reported in Broadcasting & Cable, ABC news and Yahoo cut a content-sharing deal with ABC News in which ABC News will be the premier news provider on Yahoo! News.  This deal will combine both audiences of more than 100 million U.S. visitors monthly. 

Although ABC News and Yahoo! may be working together now, the deal is not a merger of the two companies- each will maintain their own editorial  control of their respective sites.  They will collaborate on branded content to appear on the sites however.  Co-production coverage of major news events will take place with both ABC News and Yahoo!- they have integrated bureaus in new York, Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles. 

ABC News President Ben Sherwood called this deal/alliance a ‘game changer’- this alliance will bring ABC News stories and original web series to Yahoo’s wide audience.  Yahoo reaches more unique visitors than any other news site- and this will greatly benefit ABC News. 

On Monday, the first of three original video series: Newsmakers will debut Good Morning America’s anchor George Stephanapolous’ interview with President Obama live at the white House.  This interview will stream live on both ABCNews.com and Yahoo.com. 

Other two original video series that will be available on Yahoo! as well are Around the World with Christiane Amanpour, and  This Could Be Big.  According to Broadcasting & Cable, more will be added this coming fall and into 2012 as well. 

According to the executive Vice President of Americas at Yahoo, this deal will help revolutionize the online and digital news landscape in today’s media.  Levinsohn states that this is seen as innovative for advertisers because the scale of reach gives the companies an innovative way to go to market.  It seems that these two companies, ABC News and Yahoo! will be able to reap many benefits from this ‘game changer’ deal.

CBS is up! What about everyone else?

As reported in Broadcasting and Cable, according to Nielson, ABC network has dropped to fourth place Sunday night in TV network ratings with an overall 2.3rating/6 share, in the 18-49 demo.  ABC’s TV show ‘Pan Am’ slipped a whopping 19% by its second week on air to a 2.5.  Desperate Housewives also dropped 6% to a 2.9 and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition dropped 9% to a 2.1.  ABC is not looking too hot this week.

CBS on the other hand is experiencing a general climb in ratings- netting n overall 3.1/8.  The Amazing Racing grew 10% to a 3.3 and The Good Wife increased by 9% to a 2.4.  60 minutes drew to a 4.5, especially since it was Andy Rooney’s final show after 30 years. 

Like ABC’s TV shows, Fox’s Animation Domination has encountered negative ratings.  Family Guy fell 15% to a 3.5, The Simpsons fell 21% to a 3.0 and The Cleveland Show slipped 16% to a 2.6.  Their overall network earnings were 2.7/7.

And finally, although NBC may be in third place after ABC’s slip, it still is not increasing in rankings as one may think.  Sunday night premiered the New York Jets-Baltimore Ravens matchup, earning a 5.9/15.  Football Night in America decreased by 17% to a 4.9, while Sunday Night Football increased to a 7.3- up a tenth from last week’s
